Crown has been honoured with the Marie Claire Sustainability Award 2024 for Eco-Friendly Decorating Brand of the Year

We’re very excited to share with you that Crown has been honoured with the Marie Claire Sustainability Award 2024 for Eco-Friendly Decorating Brand of the Year! The team at Crown have consistently worked towards a brighter, healthier future and our approach to sustainability covers every stage of the product lifecycle. This incredible recognition by Marie Claire underscores our deep commitment to the environment and solidifies our position as a leader in eco-conscious decorating.

At Crown, sustainability is part of everything we do—from sourcing raw materials responsibly to minimising waste and energy use in our production processes. We believe that every step, no matter how small, contributes to a larger impact. Our initiatives reflect our dedication to creating products that not only beautify spaces but also safeguard the planet for future generations.

Crown has consistently been at the forefront of sustainable innovation within the paint industry, setting new standards with a series of pioneering achievements. We were the first UK paint manufacturer to introduce paint cans made entirely from recycled plastic, revolutionising packaging by reducing reliance on virgin materials and minimising environmental impact.

We were also the first in the industry to receive a trace VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) classification, demonstrating our commitment to improving indoor air quality and reducing harmful emissions in our products. Furthering our dedication to ethical and eco-friendly practices, we became the first UK paint manufacturer to secure Vegan Verification for our Walls & Ceilings range, ensuring that our products are free from animal-derived ingredients and cruelty-free.

In our continuous pursuit of sustainability, we were also the first to introduce fully recyclable paint swatch samples made entirely from recycled materials. This innovation not only makes it easier for consumers to make eco-conscious choices but also reflects our commitment to a circular economy where resources are reused and waste is minimised.

Over the past year, we’ve achieved several significant milestones:

  • Transitioned to 100% renewable energy across all our owned operations.
  • Recycled over 1.3 million paint cans through our Can Back scheme.
  • Donated unused paint to community groups.
  • Launched Crown Trade Clean Air, a paint that meets BREEAM and LEED standards and purifies indoor air.

Looking ahead, our journey towards sustainability continues with ambitious goals set under our Project Possible initiative:

  • Achieve complete carbon neutrality across our operations by 2026 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions across our supply chain by 50% by 2030.
  • Become a zero waste to landfill business by 2026.
  • Ensure that by 2025, 80% of all our plastic packaging will be made from recycled content.

We’re thrilled to have our efforts recognised by Marie Claire, and as our Director Katie McLean says, “Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword for us; it’s at the heart of everything we do. This award is a recognition of our commitment to people and our planet without compromising on product quality. It’s fantastic to see this recognised by Marie Claire. Our goals might be ambitious, but they are not unattainable, and by setting the standard, we hope to inspire not only our industry but also our customers to embrace more sustainable choices so we can paint a better world for future generations.”

Thank you for celebrating this milestone with us and for your continued support in our sustainability journey! We look forward to what tomorrow brings as we continue to work toward a greener future.
